There are too many examples where experiences and outcomes for people needs to improve and part of this has to be greater awareness and training of our staff. I am extremely pleased to see that the new training is now coming closer to being a reality. Learning Disability Jobs & Recruitment
A dating agency designed to give adults with learning disabilities a better chance of finding love is set to be launched near Herne Bay. Care worker Holly Leadbetter decided to create Aiding Love after witnessing the difficulties many of her clients experience when trying to meet new people. She says that, currently, adults with learning disabilities living across the district have few opportunities to socialise with new groups of people and meet potential suitors.
Ms Leadbetter knows of several couples who have met because they have been supported by the same companies, or attended the same day services or schools – but says many have not been so fortunate. The care worker founded the dating service – which will be open to people across the Canterbury district and Thanet – after one of her clients suggested the idea. Ms Leadbetter says users will be matched with another person once a month and be able to attend regular events.

I helped start a petition with Mencap yesterday, asking the dating website OkCupid to apologise and take down a question it asks as part of their screening process, which is offensive to people such as me who have a learning disability. One day I may want to have children, but just because I have a learning disability my right to do so is being questioned.
OkCupid did reply to our objections saying that it asks the question to help people weed out other people that may have different opinions. But this misses the point.

Little Mix : Holiday. A dating service has been set up for people with disabilities and mental health issues in Cornwall. James Blewett and Sam Gallaspy, who both have experience working with people with learning difficulties, started Hand in Hand to help individuals find friendship, companionship and love. Sam thought of the idea whilst working at a home with 14 residents with different severities of learning disabilities, a few of whom were looking for love.
After trying to help them use dating agencies, none of which worked out, Sam decided to set up his own with James, targeting Cornwall specifically. Based in Penzance, Hand in Hand offers a unique service by handpicking potential matches, rather than using a database.
